A baccalaureate degree with at least twelve semester hours in agribusiness, agricultural science, agronomy, animal science, biology, botany, chemistry, dairy science, entomology, environmental science, food science, forestry, geology, horticulture, physical science, physics, plant pathology, poultry science, soil science, veterinary science, wildlife and fisheries science, zoology, or any combination AND an additional twelve semester hours in accounting, agribusiness, agricultural science, agronomy, animal science, biology, botany, chemistry, dairy science, economics, education, entomology, environmental science, food science, forestry, geology, health sciences, horticulture, management, marketing, physical science, physics, plant pathology, poultry science, soil science, veterinary science, wildlife and fisheries science, zoology or any combination.

This position (#51319) is located within the Office of Agro Consumer
services
, Grain Division, working out of the Jonesville Office. This job includes but is not limited to the sampling and grading of agricultural commodities (grain). Grain inspections occur on railcars, grain barges, grain trucks and grain elevators.
This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled as an Agriculture Specialist 1 or 2 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. The maximum salary for the Agriculture Specialist 2 is $63,648.00. This position may be filled by probationary appointment. Applicants who are not permanent employees of Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry may be required to serve a new probationary period.

Function of Work:
To examine, inspect, and investigate products, facilities, services, commodities and/or livestock to ensure compliance with and enforcement of laws and regulations concerning Meat Inspection, Agricultural Commodities, Weights and Measures, and/or Livestock.
Level of Work:
Entry.
Supervision Received:
Close from an Agriculture Specialist District Supervisor. May receive project supervision from Agriculture Specialists 2 and 3 during training periods.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Agriculture Specialist 2 by performance of entry level rather than journeyman level tasks.
Examples of Work:
Trains in the performance of commodity, meat plant, and/or livestock inspections.
Inspects physical condition of processing or storage facilities for proper certification of equipment, sanitary conditions, adequacy of records, etc.
Performs beginning level work inspecting all types of animals prior to and after slaughter to determine if they are free from animal disease or parasitic contamination.
Obtains and tests samples as required to test for commodity quality, livestock disease, etc.
Verifies that all processed meats are produced and labeled in accordance with appropriate regulations and laws.
Grades and affixes legends to processed meat products.
Trains for USDA license to inspect, grade, measure, sample or test agricultural commodities; performs beginning level inspection of assigned commodities to determine acceptability for the marketplace or to determine official grade.
Learns procedures necessary to test, inspect and calibrate commercially used weighing and measuring devices used for solid or liquid commodities, including motor fuel retailers to ensure compliance of products and dispensing equipment with state laws.
Reviews package labeling and markings to ensure that products are properly labeled to reflect accurate descriptions of the product relative to net weight, size, numerical count, length and/or volume.
Obtains samples of motor fuel products from retailers; forwards samples to fuel laboratory for testing.
Checks fuel storage tanks for water contamination; and, checks diesel fuel pumps for inventory of product, totalizer readings, and records.
Places seals or placards on containers or pumps containing defective fuels to forbid use or sale.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
